SUSPLACE Autumn School 2017: Open for application

The SUSPLACE Autumn School ‘Shaping Places, Crossing Disciplinary Boundaries’ is hosted by the University of Aveiro, Portugal and takes place From October 2-6, 2017. The Autumn School focuses on interdisciplinary approaches towards sustainable place-shaping.

SUSPLACE is a MSCA ITN project on sustainable place-shaping funded by the EU-commission with 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESR) working on 15 linked research projects. See www.sustainableplaceshaping.net for more information. The Autumn School is part of the training of the 15 SUSPLACE ESR, but open for application to other PhD-candidates with a maximum of 15. These external participants are encouraged to bring in their own research projects and proceedings.

The SUSPLACE Autumn School aims to bring together a dedicated group of participants that will work towards a shared and deepened understanding of sustainable place-shaping practices, discussing in particular:

  • place-based development
  • sustainability
  • social-ecological systems
  • transformative capacity
  • social innovation
  • grassroots initiatives
  • collaborative learning
  • participatory action research

The Autumn School includes keynote lectures by renowned scholars such as prof. Katherine Gibson (Western Sydney University), dr. Maria Tengö (Stockholm Resilience Centre), prof. Celeste Coelho (University of Aveiro) and prof. Artur da Rosa Pires (University of Aveiro); workshops discussing theoretical approaches, concepts and methodological issues; interactive sessions in which participants present their research proceedings and get feedback from fellow students and tutors.

The fee to external participants is €300, excluding costs for travel and accommodation, but including lunches, fieldtrips, course materials and one joint dinner.
